Furniture making is incredibly satisfying and challenging.. I started a year after opening MDC and studied slab processing and welding to avoid using outside sources wherever possible. Every piece is unique and highlights the amazing beauty of the wood. Where non Boise native wood is desired or pieces are needed that are too large for our sawmill, wood is sourced from local businesses that rough saw and kiln dry the wood. Where local logs are sourced, the wood is cut and/or milled on our property and air dried for 1 to 2 years. The majority of my pieces are crafted from logs we mill and dry from locally sourced logs. Regardless of the source, all wood for live edge tables is then hand flattened with a router and edges carefully hand sanded for a soft touch. Non live edge wood is machine planed where possible or hand flattened when the width exceeds my planer capabilities.
Metal legs are designed to best highlight the wood. I cut, weld and finish each piece. Most of the bases are left natural steel with a protective clear coat. Some are painted to better highlight the wood. All are strong and capable of handling the stresses of our home lives.
You can find pieces that are complete and ready for a home as well as pieces nearing completion
